Wang is generally a nice guy, cheerful, friendly and nice towards others. But he tends to snap often and quite easily and rushes things. He’s can be very shy around other nationalities. Whenever he’s upset, he tries to hide it. But doesn’t do a great job of it. He’s talkative around all people minus those he is scared of. He treats his enemies with little mercy. He’s smart, and can write very well. He just has a small trouble with pronouncing words.
His past is filled with ups and downs. Is past was OK, but it was tougher during the war. He doesn’t like to talk/remember it. If it does come up he will change the subject as quickly as possible. He believes the future and present are more important than the past.
Background story
Wang Yao was born and raised in Beijing. He had a mother called Jinjing, a father called Bingwen and a younger sister who was called Chen. His family wasn’t poor, and they weren’t rich. Wang lead a happy peaceful life with this family. He loved his sister very much, and was always obedient to his parents. He was fluent at writing English at school, and always got the highest marks, but he wasn’t the best when it came to reading as he would slip up every so often.
When he was 10 years old, his mother got very sick and died. For 2 months Wang wouldn’t talk to anyone and blamed himself for what happened because he believed he could have done something to help her. His sister, Chen got upset at him for not talking to her and slapped some scene into him. She said, “It’s not your fault!! Gēgē (older brother) did everything he could! Please talk to me, everyone is sad because you will not talk.” Then she gave him a white cat stuffed animal toy and said that if he wouldn’t speak to her, then he would have to speak to this. After that, he talked more but whenever this mum was mentioned, it was like he changed character completely.
During the war, Wang’s father went out to fight, and Wang was left to protect his sister. The didn’t want to leave their home. They both said “This is where we were born, and we will stay here to the end.” Their father was worried by that decision, but it was the only choice he had.
A year after the war had began, he received the news that his father had been shot and died. Chen and Wang didn’t take the news well. He began not to talk, and he blamed himself again, he kept on saying that he should’ve gone in his place. His sister was deeply worried, but never told Wang.
Wang took good care of his sister. He was a good cook with the rations they had and made sure they both got to school on time, well until it was blown up.
On the last week of the war, his sister collapsed and came down with the same illness their mum had. No one knew why. He couldn’t eat or sleep. He could only take care of his precious sister. He grew ill due to that fact, but he still tired and tried to keep her healthy, but on the last day of the war, when it was finally all over, she died. Her final words being: “Don’t blame yourself gēgē.” But he got better. He the realized how alone he was. He still blames himself for the death of his family. But he knows deep down, that it wasn’t his fault, and that he did everything he could.
Extras
-He says aru after most things that he says. He was teased by people from other nationalities for this, and still is, but he doesn’t care as much now.
-He looks a little young for his age. He doesn’t like being mistaken for a kid.
-He has a white cat toy called Xiao Mei, that his younger sister gave to him before she died in the war. HE believes that her soul rests inside it.
RP Sample
It was afternoon; Wang Yao burst into his room and flopped down onto the bed. He was tired and bored. “Ai ya! Teacher is so boring aru!” He wailed as he rolled around on his bed. He sat up and hugged the cat plushie. Suddenly, something struck him. He took out a notebook and a pencil and started drawing. He had urge to draw for a long time, and he never had anytime during the morning. “Alright aru! I’m gonna draw something good, and this time I’m not going to let anything-“
“Have you been practicing pronouncing your English Wang Yao?” Said a sweet voice. It was a girl who had been helping Wang with his pronouncing his English.
“Y-yes aru.” He said in English. Nervous that me might slip up at some point and make a fool out of himself. Why can’t English be as easy as Chinese? Wang thought to himself .
“Well then, can I see how you are coming along with your writing?” She asked nicely, in fluent English.
“O-ok aru…” Wang mumbled as he passed her a notebook with the words ‘Wang Yao’ written in English.
“Hmm…” She said, looking through it. “It’s nice to see you’re coming along well. Your handwriting is very neat and…” She noticed Wang’s confused face. Wang couldn’t understand complicated English. The girl sighed and repeated herself but this time in Chinese.
Time had passed and it was late afternoon. Wang was lying on his bed drawing. He preferred it when he wasn’t being asked questions or being bothered. He just wanted to draw without a care in the world. But deep inside he felt lonely; there was no one in his room. He turned to a cat toy, “Xiao Mei… I’m lonely aru. Why can’t you speak?” He took the toy into his arms and approached the window. He looked down and saw the other boys playing. He sighed and looked at Xiao Mei, forcing a smile, “At least they’re not lonely aru.”
