IC
Personality
Lovino is prickly- he's stubborn, and sulks, and doesn't open up very easily. He can be very sweet and loving, and loyal, but letting other people see that just makes him look weak and stupid so he doesn't show it.
He puts on a lot of bluster but is actually easily scared and wants someone to care about him- just don't corner him because he will fight dirty.
background story
(this can be updated when we get a n. italy.)
Italy was not the most advanced or prosperous of countries before the war, and it was worse in the south. Lovino grew up knowing he was the unwanted son of an unhappy marriage. He was raised by his grandfather after his mother decided she reminded him too much of his father, and they moved around too much for Lovino to ever be settled in one place- he stopped trying to make friends and spent his time working for his grandfather.
When the war came to italy it came from the south up, and near the end his grandfather, fearing for lovino's safety, pulled on some connections to send his grandson to Fond de L'etang. Lovino has not heard from his grandfather or other relatives since.
Extras
Lovino was nearly illiterate when he came to the school and still has trouble reading. he is very defensive about this. He also worries a lot about aging out of the school and not having anyone on the outside.
RP sample
Lovino stared at the book in his hands, and could feel his face heating up. The closely set type blurred in front of his eyes, and he wished fervently to be back on a farm in Italy, growing tomatoes in the sun instead of sitting here on a hard school-room bench feeling like the lowest piece of dirt that ever failed at reading a simple sentence.
"Th-... the.. cat... r-ran.."
There, he'd read a damn sentence, and the stupid, overly-kind spanish man that was evaluating him for class placement could stop looking at him with such useless pity in his eyes. He didn't have to read to be useful, dammit, especially not this stupid english that he'd never use. He could write his name and do enough math to not be swindled and that was good enough.
...it had to be, because he was getting more and more sure that he couldn't do any better.
