Personality
Oh, where to start with Alfred. He’s carefree, rude, and obnoxious- a true American, you could say. He has that something that makes you like him and his charisma no matter how annoying you might also find him, and get you just with his smile.
He has the weird “skill” to ignore what everybody says yet be honest-to-God determined to help them with whatever troubles he might have at the same time. He’s, in short and using his own words, a Hero.
background story
Alfred doesn’t remember his childhood. Like, at all. The earliest memory he has is at the American orphanage the police brought him to when they found him stealing food for a living on the streets. He was around 14. He doesn’t remember his father, or his mother, at all.
Since he looked like he was been born on the 1929 or 30, it was easy to suppose his parents had merely left him on his own when the great depression stroke and it was impossible for them to take care of a kid. Alfred didn’t seem to care (…probably scared by the answer he might find).
The only clue he has about his early life are the military dog tags he always wears around his neck, which only read ‘Alfred F. Jones’. He adopted that as his name, even if he has no idea what the ‘F’ stands for (and no, it doesn’t mean ‘Fucking’ you shaddup). For them, he guessed his father might have been a soldier, and proudly fought for his country… that’s what he like to think anyway.
His life at the orphanage lasted a year and it was… not easy, but not hard either. He had food, a bed, friends… the teachers were too harsh sometimes, and he had to face some unusual punishments (like sleeping outside in the rain for picking fights), but he guessed he couldn’t complain. It could have been worse, right?
…that was, until he felt he had had enough of waiting. He was a hero, and heroes weren’t supposed to be waiting to just get adopted when there was a war going on. There was obviously no way for him to get enrolled for at least a year, so he simply said bye to all his friends during the night, stuffed some food and the few money he had onto his bag and ran away one night, heading to the harbor.
It wasn’t hard for him to stow away on the first ship he found to Europe. …well, maybe he was found on his first attempt and had to go incognito on another one but whatever.
As expected, he was easily found one they reached ground on France, and was taken to the boarding school much to his dismay. That explains why the first weeks- even months, he was always trying to escape. It was not that he didn’t like the place- he made some friends with the time, and even though he was always getting in troubles with the teachers, it was nothing he (or they) could not bear. It was just that he didn’t like being confined, being… No. Just no. He liked freedom, liked being on his own (…maybe with some backups).
Now he doesn’t really feel like running away, since he gets along with practically everybody… but still tries to do it at least once a month. Almost like a tradition…
Extras
- He doesn’t believe in magic, but thinks UFOs are real and interesting.
- He has a stuffed toy of an Alien named Tony. Nobody knows how he got it.
RP sample
As soon as he opened his eyes when he woke up, Alfred felt that would be a good day. You know, the air brought him that kind of...feeling. And he had always been one to trust his intuition, so he jumped out of bed rather exited for the day.
Classes came, classes went. He barely paid attention to any of them to be honest- but come on, nobody did anyway. The teachers tried hard, but the kids had just learned to take care of themselves on their own and trust very few adults, if any. Alfred did trust the adults, but he also knew how to trick them with his smile and his puppy eyes.
Once the class finished, he walked to the dining hall… just to stop in the middle to stare at the floor. There, shining, waiting for him… a lucky penny! He ducked, smirking, to pick it up and played with it between his fingers when he was sure nobody was watching (so they wouldn’t steal it). Yes, indeed, it was going to be a great day…
